We made it! See www.smoglife.co.uk for the blog and pictures, but not before you've sponsored me! Thank you!
Baffin Island in North East Canada is one of the Arctic’s finest treasures. 1.5 times the size of Germany but with a population of only 11,000 it is truly one of the world’s most remote places. Baffin is home to the Auyuittuq Arctic National Park – our expeditions’ destination. The 110 mile self-sufficient crossing of the island through this inaccessible park requires travellers to tackle the various challenges of frozen sea ice, snow fields, vast frozen glacial lakes and the traverse of frozen water falls. The mountain range we pass through is one of the worlds most ancient at almost 2 billion years and expeditions meet Mount Asgard and Thor fabled amongst mountaineers the world over (Mount Thor has the earths highest purely vertical drop at 1250m) - this is an expedition fewer people have completed than have reached the summit of Everest.
A British Team of 16 - including 3 guides and a doctor - will attempt the crossing over 2 weeks, leaving the UK 18th April 2008. We will be totally self-sufficient in temperatures from freezing down to minus 40, towing sledges and camping from the North Coast to the South.
I am paying for the complete cost of the trip myself, so all sponsorship will go straight to Epilepsy Action.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Epilepsy Action will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Please opt in for updates which I'll be sending before and after the Expedition, and have a look at my personal website www.smoglife.co.uk - I've posted a blog including past emails, plus links to my gallery with pictures of the training and packing weekends.
Many thanks for your support.
