The Great Wall of China Trek, September 2009
I have been challenged to walk the Great Wall of China with my wife Julie in September and am raising money in aid of the British Liver Trust, a very worthy cause and you will know this is close to my heart after the sad loss of a friend and Wilts Chairman Mark Kingsbury.
Our trekking challenge starts in Jinshanling with a vigorous trek that loops along the mountains either side of the Gubeikou Gateway.
For 5 days we will trek between approximately 11kms - 20kms each day!!! along the stony path, twisting and winding its way along the mountains, interspersed with crumbling watchtowers.
It is going to be really demanding task (as I don't normally walk anywhere!!) but I am told it is very rewarding, particularly on a clear day when we can look at the vast and beautiful mountain ranges and imagine when the wall was the frontline defence of Imperial China.
We are travelling with Charity challenge http://www.charitychallenge.co.uk/cc/charitychallenge/expedition_details.jsp?id=996
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Liver Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Julie is raising money for the British Heart Foundation so please visit her just giving page.
