On 22nd May 2010 myself and 1499 other psycho's will be taking part in the daunting challenge that is 'Ironman Lanzarote'.  (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle, 26.2 mile run) 

This is widely recognised as 'The World's Toughest Ironman'. Nowhere else is the awesome power of nature to create and destroy more apparent than Lanzarote, one of the seven Canary Islands, only 120km from the West Coast of Africa. Heat, wind and the mountainous terrain of this volcanic island add to the reputation of this greulling challenge.

Swim: 2.4 miles (3.8km) The event kicks off at 7:00am with a 1500 person, mass swim start in Lanzarote's Playa Grande, Puerto del Carmen, and consists of two laps of a sea swim marked out by bouys. It's the equivalent of 152 lengths of your standard 25 meter pool, with the added bonus of waves.

Bike: 112 miles (180km) Next up is a very tough bike leg that consists of a lap around the whole island. This is made particularly tough by the strong island winds and consists of over 2550 meters of climbing! Just take a look at the elevation graph on the Ironman website.

Run: 26.2 miles (42.2km) If I'm still alive after the swim and bike, the next joy for the day is a marathon!! This consists of 4 laps of a 10.55km course along the seafront, Avendia de Las Playas, Peurto del Carmen.  

All athletes must complete the whole event by midnight (within 17 hours of the start) to earn the privilege of being an Ironman Lanzarote finisher.
