I'm running the London Marathon to raise money for Lifecraft, a Cambridge based self-help organisation run by users and ex-users of mental health services.
As many of you will know I spent over 30 years working in NHS mental health services so I have seen at close quarters the devastation that mental ill health leads to for both individuals and their families. However, I also saw the tremendous benefit that people gained from the support, advice and companionship that organisations such as Lifecraft can provide. The NHS has limited resources and wonderful organisations like this plug the gap.
I do hope that you feel able to support this incredibly worthwhile cause. It is a sobering thought that 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem at some point in our lives so it's good to know that organisations such as Lifecraft exist to help us through those difficult times.
