Story
The London Marathon Sunday 22 April 2007
Despite getting stuck on a broken down train and having a 20 minute jog to the starting line 40 minutes after the gun had gone off, I still managed to run 26 miles in the heat on behalf of the HPB (Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary) Medicine & Surgery Unit to raise funds for the UCLH Ambulatory Cancer Centre Appeal !!!
University College London Hospitals is developing a new Ambulatory Cancer Centre, the first of its kind outside the USA . To realise this vision, UCLH Charitable Foundation needs to raise £40 million.
To support this appeal, I ran in the London Marathon! As I had never run more than 10K before and started training on Valentine's Day, this was a great challenge for me and I am writing to ask you if you would support me in my effort.
The new Ambulatory Cancer Centre, to be sited in Grafton Way across from the new UCH, will provide the best treatment with the least disruption to the lives of patients and their families. Patients will be able to access treatments, diagnostics, counselling, information, complementary therapies and support on a totally integrated basis.
Dedicated environments will be created for the following major cancers:
- Men’s Health – including prostate and testicular cancers
- Women’s Health – including gynaecological and breast cancers
- Haematological cancers and sarcoma – including leukaemia and bone cancers
- Paediatric and adolescent cancers
- Head, neck, brain and lung cancers
- Upper and lower gastro-intestinal cancers including liver and pancreatic cancer
The centre will provide the treatment and holistic support necessary for thousands of patients, their families, friends and carers.
So please sponsor me! Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: University College London Hospitals Charitable Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
