On 5th January 2006 I am running in the first Antarctica Icemarathon. However due to weather conditions we were unable to run until the 7th January. The event will be run at 80 degrees south - just a few hundred miles from the South Pole, this is the only marathon in the Antarctic circle and the southernmost marathon in the world. The average temperature is -20 degrees C, but with  winds blowing at 10 to 25 knots and gusts at higher speeds the wind chill could lower this by a further 10 degrees. (More information is available at www.icemarathon.com) I have now completeted the marathon in 6hrs 41mins 6seconds in temperatures of -7degrees C and winds of upto 45 knots.

This is probably the final proof that many of you needed to confirm that I have lost all common sense and have lost the plot. However, all is not lost, and my madness can benefit somebody else; so come on, dig deep (I will need to both physically and mentally) and sponsor me and support Cancer Research UK. All the sponsorship money will go to Cancer Research - none of the money will be used for expenses which will be met personally and the charity and the target have been chosen by me and not a figure that I need to raise in order to proceed.

Steve
