THE END TO END
LATEST NEWS: Our team succeeded in completing the ride as planned. For photos and more information, please visit our blog at http://endtoend.netlagoon.com/.
In September, I will be cycling the length of Britain, a distance of about 1000 miles. My "End to End" will be in aid of Plan UK, an international charity that helps children throughout the developing world.
I will be cycling with my husband James Fairbairn, Albert Cheung and Ed Cohen. The journey will take about 3 weeks, starting at Land's End and finishing at John O'Groats.
I already support Plan by sponsoring a child in rural Thailand. I want to use this opportunity to increase awareness of Plan's excellent work and to raise funds for one of their many community projects. BAREFOOT LAWYERS I will be raising money for the project "Barefoot Lawyers in Uganda". The aim of the project is to provide high quality legal advice to families living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda. Over a million children there have been orphaned by AIDS, left to care for their brothers and sisters alone, and vulnerable to property grabbing from relatives who seize the family land and possessions. Unaware of their legal rights and unable to speak up, women and children can find themselves homeless. Plan is collaborating with the Ugandan branch of the Association of Women Lawyers to train volunteer paralegal officers who travel by bicycle to conduct advice sessions at mobile legal aid centres. £50 will pay for one bicycle to allow a paralegal volunteer to reach remote families. £100 will train local people in the basics of family law. £800 will pay for the production of legal booklets in local languages. SPONSORSHIP As this British lawyer takes to her bicycle, please show your support by pledging sponsorship. You can sponsor me on this webpage using a credit/debit card. Be sure to click "Pay on Completion" so that your card is only charged after we complete the ride. "Sponsor Us Now" will charge you immediately. If you prefer, you can sponsor me an amount per unit of 50 miles - please get in touch with me directly and I will keep a record of it. If you prefer to pledge a donation to me directly, again, please get in touch. For more information on "Barefoot Lawyers in Uganda", see http://www.plan-uk.org.
