Hadrian's Wall Walk · 9 June 2005

First Touch supports sick and premature babies cared for at St George’s neonatal unit in SW London. We fund state-of-the-art equipment and specialist staff training which are outside of the scope of NHS budgets, as well as a range of initiatives to support families during their stay on the unit.

Story

We did it! From June 22-26 a group of 19 of us, including a couple of under 3's (with the help of a pushchair!) walked the length of Hadrian's Wall. We had a good array of blister, aches & pains but more importanly a sense of achievement to show for it!

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us to carry out this Walk, it has helped us to raise a good amount towards the new equipment for the nursery.

Our daughter, Emily, was born 5 weeks early due to growth problems in the womb, and spent her first 6 weeks on the Neonatal Unit at St. George's Hospital in Tooting, London. We are immensely grateful for the care, expertise and support that she (and we!) received during that time.

St George's Friends of the Neonatal Unit are currently raising money for a new wing in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the hospital. It is hoped that the new unit will have six Intensive Care cots, each comprising incubators, apnoea monitors, and SATS machines, as well as a number of ventilators. The cost of each cot and its equipment amounts to almost £40,000 alone and we are hoping to generate a good proportion of this through our event across our whole group.

Thank you for your generosity, Rachel & Dan Pidcock
