Story
My grandmother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) about 15 years ago, and it breaks my heart to see how this disease has turned her into a shadow of her former self over the intervening years. It doesn't just affect her life but also the life of my Grandfather, who is now her full-time carer, and the lives of the rest of my family, who have had to stand by and watch this terrible disease take its toll.
That's why I'm doing the Tube Challenge on Thursday, November 17th 2011.
The aim is to visit all 270 stations of the London Underground, using only my feet and public transport, by either arriving at or departing from each one by London Underground train.
I'll be starting at Chesham (north-west corner of the map) at 0650, and hopefully ending up at Heathrow Terminal 5 some 16+ hours later. The world record currently stands at 16:29:13, and although I stand little to no chance of beating it, I hope to complete the full network within the time available to me.
I'll be spending countless hours on hot, crowded trains, and (depending on my route) will run the equivalent of a marathon over the course of the day.
I'm doing this so that other people need not suffer like my grandmother and the rest of my family have. It may be too late to provide a cure for my grandmother, but at least it may come soon enough to help the thousands of others who are waiting in hope.
Please give whatever you can afford to give, even if it's just a few pence, and hopefully we can all go some way to making a difference.
Thank you
James
