Story

My name is Elsie, and I am a Senior Staff Nurse on night duty here at St Luke’s Hospice.

As a local charity we really couldn’t operate without the support from our local community. In my role I experience firsthand how such help not only enables us to provide excellent care to our patients but also to provide facilities for their loved ones.

Our dedicated night team constantly aim to ensure the family are made as comfortable as possible when staying overnight, always ready with a hot drink or just to listen. We also include them in all aspects of care giving, very aware that we are privileged to be a part of such a personal time.

We cannot do this without you. We are all struggling because of the recession and have had to tighten our purse strings but hopefully things will improve for us in the future. Unfortunately for many of our patients the future is very short and this will be their last Christmas. To ensure we can make it as special as possible may I ask if you could please donate to the Hospice the cost of a small gift? You would be surprised the difference a few pounds can make.

Every pound counts, whether it is towards a ‘z’ bed for relatives to use overnight or towards the latest handling equipment. The Hospice belongs to the local community and we promise to spend your money wisely to enhance the care and facilities that we provide.

Remember St Luke’s this Christmas

We never close and as Christmas approaches we will endeavour to make the Hospice as homely and festive as possible. It will be decorated with real pine trees and a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be served on Christmas day. We will strive to make the time as enjoyable as possible for the patients, hopefully adding precious memories for their families at what is a very difficult time.

I will end my letter by wishing you a very Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year and thank you, sincerely, for your support.
