St Luke's Hospice cares for over 700 patients a year who are suffering from cancer and other incurable illnesses. It works to alleviate the symptoms of their illness and so give independence, dignity and a higher quality of life to patients for the remainder of their lives.

The Herald editor Bill Martin and picture editor Pete Holdgate are to tackle one of the most hostile environments on earth when they take part in the Namibia Ultra marathon in April. They will race 120km in 24 hours across the vast expanse of the oldest desert in the world.  The pair are currently in heavy training and are looking for sponsors.
