Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This is the second year I have entered the Transcontinental Race. It's a clock-starts-doesn't-stop-until-you-reach-the-finish bicycle race.
There are 4 checkpoints on the way, but it is otherwise completely unsupported. Outside assistance is against the rules, including from your rivals.
I can say without trying to be dramatic that this is a tough, tough race. I know, because I failed to finish last year, completing 1300 miles in the first 8 days before having to withdraw.
The people of West African countries fighting the spread of Ebola don't get to choose to withdraw, instead they are in a lottery where the odds are heavily stacked against them.
You could think of this campaign as being a fight to stop the spread of this disease coming closer to home, but mine is not that. I shall pedal every aching mile to help The British Red Cross and other charities like it that save the lives of people just like you and me, who love life like we do and deserve no less.
Please follow me as I train each day by reading my blog at www.transcontinentalbikerace.blogspot.com or via twitter @johnnymbakewell
