I have been smoking for over 19 years now, and during this time I have tried stopping so many ways that I have lost count of how many times I have tried! I have tried nicotine patches, hypnosis, cold turkey, Allen Carr's Easyway, herbal cigarettes, simply cutting down and many more.
I am now making one final mega-pledge, and to do so I want to raise money for the NSPCC. This is a great motivator for me, and I am hoping will encourage others to support me in my efforts.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
I personally am pledging £2 for each day of the next 6 months that I do not smoke. I beg you to pledge money too - you are helping not just me, but the NSPCC too. Any pledge will help - nothing is too small.

Progress so Far (latest update 10om 4th April)
Saturday 3rd April - Day One
Woke up with killer sore throat after chain-smoking outstanding stock of cigs last night. Must be worth it, surely? Set QuitMeter for start of day.
Instantly make the first milestone, being the 8 hour mark. Does it count if one has spent it asleep?
12 hour milestone come and gone. Cravings are OK, but am completely obsessed with giving up now. Only way out seems to be sleep, which I am doing lots of.
Sunday 4th April - Day Two
Hardly slept all night. Now obsessed with giving up, checking out the JustGiving website and stopping myself sleeping during the day. Starting to visualise cigarettes. Have tried substituting carrots, but somehow not quite the same. Quit meter tells me I have stopped for 1 day, 21 hours, 55 minutes and 39 seconds. Additionally, have added 4 hours and 45 minutes to my life. Inform Jon of latter, who responds with 'oh no'.
Dreading tomorrow as will be first day on my own.
Monday 5th April - Day Three
Someone has suggested that I give up Diet Coke at the same time. Yeah, right. Anyone for kick-boxing?
Apparantly by the end of today my breathing will become easier and I will have more energy. Could do with latter as still can't sleep at night. Fell asleep whilst listening to self-hypnosis Stop Smoking CD. Hopefully it will work anyway.
Have made it through today - tomorrow shouldn't be so bad as I have the boys to encourage me.
Tuesday 6th April - Day Four
Boys promised to be well behaved today if I didn't smoke. Turns out that actually they wanted to watch the Chelsea v Arsenal match. But it worked anyway - they were angels, I didn't smoke and I got a massage whilst they watched the match in the playroom.
Wednesday 7th April - Day Five
Ran out of carrots today. And celery sticks. And cucumber. And dried fruit. Resorted to the Easter Egg supply. Felt a bit queasy by the evening.
Task for tomorrow - buy more Easter eggs for the kids.
Thursday 8th to Saturday 10th - Days 6, 7 and 8!
Two whole days without husband or kids to keep me going, and I managed it! Yippee!!!! Definitely getting there.
Monday 12th April - day 10
According to my Quit Meter, these are now my vital statistics:-
Not smoked for 1 week, 2 days, 17 hours, 31 minutes and 22 seconds. 291 cigarettes not smoked, saving £70.64. Life saved: 1 day, 15 minutes.
Note the final point - I now have a whole extra day in my life. When do I claim this, and can I do anything I want with it?
Think should add:- number of friends bored stiff with my stop smoking campaign - 15 (at least), number of times I have repeated 'I am a non-smoker' to myself - 2,487, carrots eaten - 49 kilos, number of times blamed nothing for everything - 291 (recognise that number?). You get the idea...
Monday 19th April
2 weeks, 2 days, 10 hours, 14 minutes and still counting the seconds. That says it all.
