Story
The Ghana Child Sponsorship Programme has been developed through Catholic Action for Street Children (CAS), in Accra, Ghana. CAS was co-founded in 1992 by Fr Patrick Shanahan, Founder of Street Child Africa and is Street Child Africa’s longest established partner.
The first stage of sponsorship provides counselling and introductory training. The children are then offered formal schooling or vocational apprenticeship to match their ambitions. CAS pays the fees required for them to obtain their certificates of qualification and assists them in finding meaningful employment. Every child is assigned a social worker to monitor and support that child. They are interviewed before, during and after sponsorship, the records of which allow on-going evaluation of the scheme.
It Works! Since 1995, 1500 street children have successfully completed sponsorship with CAS. Six of these children are now working full time at CAS as instructors to assist new generations of children who are in the same desperate situation that they once endured.
[Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also an efficient way to sponsor: Street Child Africa will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you]
