My story

On the 10th April 2012 our best friend, Stuart Tyrer, decided to embark on a hike he had been wanting to do for a very long time. Stuart had volunteered to work at a branch of Elis Brigham in the Snowdonia area and had been excited to climb Mount Snowdon on his first available day off.

Stuart left for his solo hike on the morning of Tuesday 10th April 2012 and had reached the summit later that day. He text his parent to say he has reached the summit but unfortunately not too soon after Stuart tragically slipped and fell to his death. The alarm was raise by colleagues at work when he did not arrive home at the time he said he would. Mountain Rescue and C flight 22 Sqn RAF were called and the search began that evening. The Search and rescue teams searched throughout the night and finally discovered Stuart’s body on the morning of the 11th.

On the 10th June 2012 Mike Geldard, Charlie Egan, Richard Wills, Jamie Kenyon and Jake Bryan will climb Mount Snowdon in Stuarts memory and raise as much as possible for Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team and Help the Hero's.

The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team went out to search for our best friend when he needed them most. If it wasn't for the amazing work this group of volunteers do, more lives would be put at risk. Unfortunately in Stuarts case he was gone long before the alarm was raised let alone before they got to him. But they brought our friend home and for that we are eternally grateful.

Help the Hero's was a charity close to Stuarts heart. Stuart has spent a lot of time and effort raising money for this fantastic cause. Stuart had planned for a career in the Army and was due to take his Officers Board this month. One thing we all remember about Stuart is he ALWAYS had a Help the Heroes wrist band on (no matter how bad it had begun to smell...) This was a cause Stuart believed in, and now so do we!

Any person who wishes may climb Snowdon with us, even if they just want to cheer us on then the Llanberis path follows the route of the train and they can ride the train all the way to the top.

My daughter knew Stuart from the Midland Officers Training Corps. Is it coincidence that we decided to walk up Snowdon on the very day of Stu's walk?
