Story
G'day.
My name is Stuart Pearce and I am serving in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Until I moved to New Zealand about 3 years ago I served with the Royal Air Force and have many friends who still serve in the RAF, the RN and Army in the UK and overseas. Despite now living half a world away, I still have the utmost respect and admiration for our men and women who defend the UK. To this end, I am using a brief posting to the UK to help raise some cash for those men and women who need our help the most and I'm doing this by running for Help for Heroes. In May this year I'm competing in the 2009 Saab Salomon Trail Running Series 'Turbo X' race in Surrey. The race, approximately half the length of the London Marathon, takes place over a mix of hilly countryside and woodland, through streams and the occasional swamp. It's going to be quite a challenge! But, it'll all be worth it if we can raise a decent amount of cash for H4H.
That's where you come in. It doesn't matter how big or how small your donation is - every penny will go to projects around the UK helping to improve the life of an injured serviceman or woman returning from Afghanistan or Iraq. More information on Help for Heroes can be found at their website: www.helpforheroes.org.uk but I think the following words (stolen from the H4H website) sum things up pretty well:
"Our young men and women of the Armed Forces will say that they are not heroes, they will tell you that they are just blokes doing their job. We think that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life.
We may not be able to prevent our blokes from being wounded, but together we can help them get better."
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Help for Heroes gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
