Deep in the heart of Student Services at The University of Sheffield, there are amazing staff members helping the needs and demands of applicants and students on a daily basis. However, there came a day unlike any other, when Student Services heroes were united to raise money for a common cause! On that day, the Student Services Superheros were born! To walk the walks that no single hero could do! 

Under the cry for help to raise money for the Sheffield Scanner appeal reaching its target of £2 million pounds, these superheros have decided it’s time to unite in donning their tight spandex outfits, creating heroic poses, strapping on their power walking boots and being a team of student service superhero awesomeness, these people are revealing their secret identities and taking on the Big Walk 2018: -

James Hill  (Admissions) - Wonder Woman

Matt Page (SAS) - Spider-Man

Jon Coe (Admissions) - Superman

Nathan Pratt (Admissions) - Batman

The superheros will be walking on 22 June 2018, in a 26.2 marathon distance Peak District walk starting in Lodge Moor on the edge of Sheffield, heading out to the Peak District and ending on the University campus.

Some superheros have established their walking powers in taking part in the previous Big walks of 2017 and 2015, some are new in experiencing walking such long distances. This though will be the first time they walk as a team, being better coordinated and more awesome than the Avengers and the Justice League combined!

Why have we unveiled our secret identities in doing this?

We are raising funds towards the University’s £2 million fundraising campaign for the Sheffield Scanner - a ground-breaking MRI-PET scanner facility, and the first of its kind in Yorkshire. The Sheffield Scanner will represent the next leap forward in medical and imaging research and have a crucial role for research and patients in many areas of medicine, including cancer, neurodegenerative diseases such as Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, heart disease, diabetes and stroke. We’re well over half-way to our target of £2 million – please support the Big Walk 2018 and help us reach our final goal!
