Flora London Marathon 2009 · 26 April 2009 ·

10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I am running the London Marathon in April to raise money for Ataxia UK (http://www.ataxia.org.uk/).

My sister Lorna has lived with ataxia for the last 19 years. She became ill at the age of 15, but has remained positive and cheerful throughout.

I want to help raise awareness of the Ataxias, and raise money that will be put towards research so that one day it can be used help other families in similar positions to my own.

The ataxias are life-limiting neurological disorders. People of any age may be affected, from babies to adults. First symptoms are usually loss of balance and slurred speech. Ataxia may then progress until a person is entirely dependent on family and carers.

There is currently no cure.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Ataxia UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
