Rickshaw Challenge Chennai to Mumbai · 30 July 2010

Railway Children has a vision of a world in which no child is lost to the streets. Across the UK, India and Tanzania, our networks provide an opportunity for us to reach children who are alone and vulnerable before they come to serious harm. Together, we’re determined we’ll leave no child behind.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. However, due to a personal bereavement, we are postponing the trip until 2011.

Sue , Vanessa and Kath ( Team 3 Bags Full) have decided to drive a rickshaw 'coast to coast' across India, from Chennai to Mumbai, in a race described as " for the clinically insane".

The Rickshaw Challenge MUMBAI XPRESS- 2010, (30 July - 12 August), will follow an extensive route through the four states of India – Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra. The three adventurers, will follow a 13-stage course  over 1900 kilometers (roughly 1180 miles)  http://rickshawchallenge.com/route/mumbai-xpress

Our  rickshaw will travel through hills, valleys and beaches, cruising thought the most exotic and scenic places in the whole Indian countryside - we hope!

We are raising money for the charity Railway Children. http://www.railwaychildren.org.uk/about-us.asp  This charity is    based in the UK and works with children across India - and this is where your money will go.

The reality is that most street children are unable to adequately provide basic human needs for themselves: food, shelter and protection from harm. The first priority of Railway Children is to help these most vulnerable children.

UNICEF’s estimate of 11 million street children in India is considered to be a conservative figure. The Indian Embassy has estimated that there are 314,700 street children in metros such as Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, Kanpur, Bangalore and Hyderabad and around 100,000 in Delhi alone.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.                                      So please dig deep and donate now. - thank you.
