My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. After my visit to Kenya last year, where I had a fantastic holiday and met the most incredible people, I brought back with me some of the memories and sights I had seen. We see poverty in the 3rd world, shown on television, almost on a daily basis and I think, we feel there isn't anything we can do about it. A lot of us may feel that by donating to the bigger charities, the money gets lost through red tape, beaurocracy and corruption. A lot of what we donate doesn't get to the people we want to help. The ones that suffer most are the children. I saw children as young as 5 years walking the two hour walk to school at 6 .a.m. and then they have the two hour trip home, and on visiting a school and saw the conditions in which the teachers had to teach and the children had to learn was heart breaking. The Kenyan government give free education, but there are no funds to buy the kids even the most essential of things, a desk to sit at or a chair to sit on..... and then there are the orphans, losing their parents to aids and malaria. On my return to the UK, I decided that i would find a smaller charity to support and I found the Children of Watamu site and read the story of Sue & Dave Hayward and the work they had done for the children of Watamu. The difference they have made to over 500 children's lives. I immediately joined their sponsor a child scheme and now am a proud sponsor of Christopher, just to know I am giving one little boy an opportunity to be educated so that when he is an adult he will be able to find employment and maybe make a difference to his own family and community. I understand there a lot of charitites out there at home and abroad, we are inundated with request to make donations and for sponsorship, so why the Children of Watamu. Why, because with this charity you can really make a difference. For every penny or £1 you donate to give a child a chance, whether its buying a chicken or a text book, or a clean bed and safe house to live in, will go directly to the chidren. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Working For The Children Of Watamu gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. So please sponsor me now! Sue xxx
