On the 20th September I am trekking 107 KM  through the mountains of Northern Romania - this is an 8 day challenge with about 7 hrs walking a day. Those of you who know how much I enjoy keeping fit  (not)  will be asking  WHY?  - 

Well It is incredible to think that in this day and age  that  a country within the EU has 44% of the population living in poverty - but sadly things in Romania are still that grim.  Ex-orphanage children cast out on the streets at 18 with no life skills sleeping below ground in sewage system, pensioners struggling to live, people living in shanty towns with no access to running water, electricity or heating, patients having to share hospital beds and children being denied the chance to learn as they are often sent to work at an early age to support their families. These people are not recognised by the state and therefore recieve no aid at all.  LINK ROMANIA not only  support the immediate fight  against the war on poverty  by helping to feed and cloth these people but their long term projects such as the Life Skills Centres and farms strive to turn the situation around helping people to regain some dignity and supporting self sufficiency.
