Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I spent the past summer hiking around the Lake Tahoe region, thinking about getting in shape for the PCT. All that hiking gave me the time to think about the many photos I snap and what it is I do with them. The answer is simple; I share them with the people who weren’t there to see what I could see. I show the pictures to everyone who can see them which made me think a bit about the people who can’t see the pictures. How could I share what I saw with them? I can blah blah blah and yaddah yaddah yaddah, but I can’t adequately describe the beautiful and awesome vistas that I could see to those who couldn’t.
The daughter of one of my friends in Great Britain is losing her eyesight due to a genetic, blindness-causing disease - retinitis pigmentosa. It is uncommon in that it afflicts about two million people worldwide. My friend’s daughter is one of those and it must seem all too common to her. This disease has no cure yet, but the British Retinitis Pigmentosa Society is aggressively funding genetic research to find one.
I am determined to help her and others with RP by devoting my hike from Mexico to Canada this year to raising awareness about RP and soliciting contributions for RP Fighting Blindness. Their link can also be found on my website at www.summers-trails.com
If you are able to share in my adventure, then come along. I’ll post photos here and on my website (where you’ll see shots from all around the Tahoe Basin). Enjoy the shots and the trip and, if you can, help someone else to see what we can see on the other side of the mountain.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RP Fighting Blindness gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
If you are donating from the USA, this site will collect donations in US Dollars and converts your contribution to British Pounds for RP Fighting Blindness. The exchange rate (at 9th Feb 2009) is roughly 1.4, so if you make a donation of £10 GBP it will cost you about $14 USD. This is subject to fluctuations of course.
So please send your donation now!
