Team Channel Swim - "Thursday 28th August 8 am"
Completed in 12 hrs 53 minutes 3 seconds
"Sunshine Steyning", our team of swimmers from Steyning Athletic Club (Sarah Cotton, Paul Maggs, Brian Mason, and George & Lian Middleton) together with Gary Pearce of A2Tri Club completed a channel relay swim on 28th August. Our swim took place under the rules of the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation (www.channelswimming.net). We had to swim in turn 1 hour each, no wetsuits!
At Dover the sea was calm but soon turned to a swell. The wind picked up and it got rough at onestage. Everyone swam really well despite cold, sea sickness and crossing two busy shipping lanes. The final leg to France was in the dark, our sat nav showed that we covered 32.3 miles.
We have chosen the Sussex Air Ambulance as one of our charties as it is totally funded by donation and an essential service for Sussex. Saving time between incident and specialist care makes a huge difference.
Making a donation through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Sussex Air Ambulance Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Many thanks if you choose to donate.
Sunshine Steyning.
