Been there, done it and got the T-shirt.
Well it all went well on the day - mostly. The team put in the work against a large compliment of seriously fit athletes (and thankfully some less serious). We featured somewhere in the middle of the results board across the day which was nice not be last.
After 8.5 hrs I decided to go out and get my 4th circuit of the 10 mile route done which could have pushed us further up the scoreboard as well. Then about 3 miles from the end.... my pedal sheared off! Despite some kind help from other racers it was not fixable. So i pushed, cajoled, freewheeeled and carried my bike to the end .... only to miss the deadline by a couple of minutes. I was utterly gutted.
However we were proud to have completed it in good time otherwise and we raised some extra money on the day.
If you wanted to contribute then please do as it makes it all the more worthwhile the sweat we expended doing it.
Thanks to the team from No Fuss who were fantastic in their support of what we were doing. There is some video covering the whole day etc on their site soon and they can be found at www.nofussevents.co.uk - then just click on the video "10 More in Moray". (It is the second small screen down the page, right in the middle)
We are raising money for new equipment for 'Childcare 4 All' who support children with Additional Support Needs.
This is done through helping childcare providers to provide a service for children who could often be excluded because of their behaviours, a disability or difficulties with communication. Part of the supprt we provide is to lend (at no cost!), therapeutic equipment and play resources to childcare providers who would be unable to provide this from their own budgets.
This kit is very expensive but sorely needed and so please give what you can as i did try to go faster ...... just for you!
Should we exceed the target then I would like to split any surplus 50/50 with The Soundbeam Project. Again this is some very expensive but clever kit that helps people with physical disabilities produce music by using body movements.
Childcare 4 All is part of Capability Scotland who are found at www.capability-scotland.org.uk
For more detailed info on anything mentioned here then please do contact me at Ben.Hobbs@capability-scotland.org.uk and I would be more than happy to give you more details about either project.
Thank-you :}
