Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Support for St Mary's Church, March, Cambs JustGiving page.

A 130-YEAR-OLD church is lying in ruins after arsonists burnt it to the ground.

All that remains of the gutted St Mary’s Church in Westry, near March, is the 130-year-old stonework after fire ripped through the interior and destroyed the timber roof.

Police are now investigating to find the culprits after one witness claimed it was started with a pile of Bibles.

A £70,000 refurbishment to make the church more accessible had recently been completed after years of fund-raising by its 50-strong congregation, but now the building has been declared “structually unsound”.
