UPDATE .... many, many thanks for your kind donations. We had a fantastic day and, thanks to your generosity, the 2 teams collected just short of £25,000! It was a massive amount, way more than we expected and Barnardo's are over the moon! We had plenty going on. We had promotions with Radio Forth and TV interviews with the local news. We had people collecting money in the local RBS offices and we organised online auctions and raffles. We ran promotions to win radio appearances and signed rugby shirts in our respective Barnardo's shops and we sold loads of stuff that people had donated. You won't be surprised to know that 'the pig' caused quite a stir on the streets of Edinburgh. He teamed up with a local bagpipe player on The Royal Mile and Princes Street and we raised money with cries of "give money to Barnardo's and make the pig dance" - the pig did a lot of dancing. All-in-all a pretty surreal sight. Rumours that he got into a scrap with a giant banana and dalmation (also seen collecting money on the streets) are completely untrue. Apologies for not posting pictures on the website, we got defeated by technology. We will be posting pictures in the next couple of days and we'll even try to spice it up with some video evidence. On a day that promises to be a cross between the Apprentice and Challenge Anneka, a team of us at RBS (Caroline, Richard C, Guy, Tom, Rachael, Nick, Richard T, Nora) aim to raise as much money as we can in one single day for Barnardo's.

Starting at 9am and finishing at 5pm, we'll be involved in a range of activities, from the obvious - taking over a Barnardo's store, online auctions, raiding offices, doing raffles - to the quite ridiculous, including dressing as a giant pig and collecting donations on the streets of Edinburgh.  All of the team will be taking it in turns as 'the pig' and we'll post pictures on this site so that you can watch our progress.

The weather is due to be cold, cloudy and windy today, but while we are out on the streets, you can help us by making a donation from the comfort of your office or home.  It's obviously all for a very worthy cause - Barnardo's believe that the lives of all children and young people should be free from poverty, abuse and discrimination and your donation will help the UK's most vulnerable children transform their lives.
