Founded in 1970 theYorkshire Kidney Research Fund supports research into the problems associated with all aspects of kidney disease.

Active throughout Yorkshire and benefiting kidney research on a national and international basis, we rely entirely on donations, fundraising, voluntary support and legacies to help us fund groundbreaking work, helping people of all ages.

Every year an increasing number of patients are diagnosed with serious kidney disease and kidney failure. Research helps us find the answers to deliver the best treatments and therapies and make a huge difference to many people.

Donations help us to achieve our objectives.

Some of the areas we're currently funding research in are:

Investigating causes of poorly developed kidneys in babies; Ways to reduce the infections dialysis patients suffer from their dialysis catheters; Investigating whether the bladder changes the composition of urine after it is made; Investigating the way in which cells from the kidney die or survive in response to disease states; Optimal way to treat anaemia, a very prevalent complication in kidney patients which causes severe fatigue and reduction in quality of life; Investigating a condition called "Dialysis-related Amyloid".

My story

Thank you for visiting the SupportSimon.com fundraising page. Please dig deep and help us acheive our fundraising target of £6000.

During January 2006 my eldest daughter, Jasmine was diagnosed with Acute Kidney Failure, specifically a conditon known as Henoch Sponlein Purpura (HSP) Nephritis.

Initially her prognosis was not a good one, but she fought very hard and with the support of both Nottinghamshire City Hospital and Doncaster Childrens Hospital she was extremely fortunate to make a full recovery. 10 months on she is back at school and doing all the things 11 year old girls do.

For many children however, this ilness can lead to permanent Kidney failure. This means dialysis and in some cases transplantation. Having witnessed the effect Kidney failure can have on children at first hand my wife Jemma and I are determined to do all we can to help support medical research and development work the Yorkshire Kidney Research Fund are undertaking in this area.

On June 19^th and 20^th 2009 I will attempt to complete the following exercises in a 24 hour period. If I succeed I will set a new ultra fitness endurance world record.

Run a Half Marathon with 50lbs Rucksack (13.1 Miles)

Cross Train a Full Marathon (26.2 Miles)

Row a Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) Cycle 200 km (125 Miles)

Complete 1000 Press Ups

Complete 1250 Bench Step Ups with 50lbs Rucksack

Walk 10km with 50lbs Rucksack (6.2 Miles)

Lift 250,000lbs in weight using at least 6 recognised lifting techniques (that's over 113 Tonnes)
