Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for a charity who have been of immense support to me since my son George was killed in a Road Traffic Accident in October 2008 at the age of 17. The Compassionate Friends offer support nationally and I have made many good friends through them, and we in turn help one another. We are a group that no parent wants to join and its always extremely sad when we welcome a new member. Brake, the Road Safety Charity have also been incredibly supportive and as money raised in the past has been donated to them I would now like to help TCF if you will help me.
I'm a little out of practice having had an injury last year but will give it my best shot - come along and watch if you can, from 9am on 10th March (A poignant date as its also Mother's Day, a day that conjures up mixed emotions)
The race is the idea of the Steve Prescot Foundation. Steve played Rugby League for St Helens, Hull, Wakefield, Ireland and was a GB Lions Tourist. In September 2006, he was diagnosed with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei a rare form of Cancer, he was given months to live. The concept of undertaking fund-raising took shape in August 2007, after Steve was Guest of Honour at a Wigan Supporters versus St.Helens Supporters Charity Rugby League match. The game signified the starting point of the Steve Prescott Foundation, with two organisations close to his own heart set to receive the benefits of his own fund-raising activities:
- The Christie:The Christie Cancer Hospital in Manchester
- Try Assist: aims to support players whose lives are affected by serious injuries while playing the game of Rugby League.
So anyone joining the run will also be helping SPF as well
