Story
Hi everyone, Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. Ann, my twin sister, and I will be running The 2008 London Marathon on April 13th for Sightsavers. So why have we chosen this charity? Some of you will know over the the past few months I have been caring for our Auntie Norma who is dying from cancer of the colon. Her favourite charity is Sightsavers which she has personally supported over many years and she has asked that we run for this charity. Sightsavers work in Africa, India and the Caribbean to combat blindness, restoring sight through specialist treatment and eye care and supporting people who are irreversibly blind by providing education, counseling and training. They help people who need it most, those living in poverty in some of the world's poorest countries. It costs just £17 for an adult cataract operation and only 31p to prevent blindness from two major causes of blindness. That means if Ann and I raise £4000, 12,903 people could be treated for river blindness or trachoma or 235 people could have their cataract extracted and their sight restored. This will be Ann's fourth marathon but the first one we have run together. Susan's goal is to run the whole 26.2 miles (which will be a challenge) and complete the race on the day we start it (and hopefully before the man wearing the Rhino outfit!). Ann's goal is to make sure we both do the training and get round the course. So please sponsor us, we will both be working very hard running those miles and want to raise as much as we can for Sightsavers. Your generosity will keep us going when our legs want to stop working. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Sightsavers will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Isn't that great? Thanks so much for your support - we will let you know how we get on Susan and Ann 5th February 2008 - Norma died this morning, very peacefully and surrounded by those that loved her. Thank-you to all those that have sent messages of support and donated so generously to her favourite charity. Susan and Ann
