Susan Anne De Luca was diagnosed with kidney cancer in January 2005 and sadly passed away on 24th February 2005. Up to that point, Susan had not had any problems at all with her kidneys. Susan left behind a loving husband, Vincenzo, and four sons, Mario, Andrew, Mark and Jonathan, who lived together in the family home at the time of her diagnosis. Since her passing, the family have stayed close and dedicated themselves to raising money for Kidney Research UK. They hope to further research into what causes this terrible disease and how it could be treated or cured in the future. The family’s fundraising efforts have been inspirational. They have placed collection boxes in retail outlets in and around Bradford and recruited runners to take part in the Great North Run on behalf of Kidney Research UK. In the 2005 run, 40 runners took part in honour of Susan, raising an incredible £10,000. They recruited ten runners for the 2007 run, raising £2,500, and are already hard at work attracting runners for the 2008 race. The family have now set up the Susan Anne De Luca Tribute Fund in honour of their much missed wife and mother, on what would have been her 50th birthday – 13th May 2008.
