UPDATE 14th April 2008: Woohoo! I did it! - in 4:35.34, which is a tiny bit slower than I was hoping for but was still a pb by over 25 mins so I'm very happy. The event was fabulous and the highlights were running with Iain - a fellow Environment Agency employee who was dressed as a banana for Leukaemia Research, running over Tower Bridge where the scenery and supporters were amazing (you get cheered on, so you smile, the more you smile, the more you get cheered on...ace!), and seeing Mum and Dad at mile 17 - a very welcome bit of support. On the downside, my knee injury had prevented me doing enough long training runs and by Mile 18 I was really feeling it; and being overtaken by a giant cornish pasty (compensated for by overtaking and finishing faster than Kate Lawler!). It was such a great day. Thanks so much to everyone who has sponsored me and to friends and family who were there or sent messages of support - you don't know quite how much it helped! Polly was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia back in November. It’s an aggressive but often treatable form of the disease. Polly’s been having chemotherapy which at this stage seems to be going well, but is pretty unpleasant for her – to say the least. It has also virtually wiped out her immune system and on several occasions she’s had some really nasty battles against infection. Leukaemia Research is the only national charity dedicated to funding research into Leukaemia. Treatment has already come a long way and Leukaemia Research is working to end the suffering by contributing to the development of new, more effective, less intrusive treatments. There’s still a long way to go until we see Polly back on her feet and running, biking, paddling and swimming around the Lake District that she loves so much. Leukaemia Research is helping her to get there as soon as possible. It’s been heartbreaking watching my friend go through such a tough time, so I feel really lucky that I have this opportunity to help her. Please take this opportunity to do something for Polly too by sponsoring my marathon run for Leukaemia Research. The official bit: Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Leukaemia Research will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support. Susan
