Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.  In September this year a group of us will be aiming to climb Kilimanjaro ... looked easy on Red Nose day but people have died making the attempt so it's a major challenge.

We are currently trying to raise money for a breast cancer services at St. Margaret's Hospital, Epping and Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, Harlow which funds breast cancer care for those patients and families who need a little extra help during treatment of their condition.

Within the local area covered by Princess Alexandra and St. Margaret’s hospitals, approximately 350 new patients are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Of these, 10% would benefit from treatments that are not standard on the NHS and hence currently not available in the Epping/Harlow area. The charity hopes to fund treatment options and training of specialists in providing new treatments not currently available in the local area. Ultimately the charity wishes to raise sufficient funds to build a central cancer unit covering diagnosis, treatment options and patient beds to ensure continuity in care and location of that care is offered to patients who have to endure long periods of illness. The aim is to benefit local families to improve their quality of life during some difficult times.

Other possible projects that the charity is investigating is setting up a “beauty parlour”. The psychological aspects of the patient’s changing appearance can be detrimental to their overall well-being. By offering complimentary care for patients who have suffered hair loss with the fitting of wigs, or other additional help to maintain the patient’s dignity and self-esteem while undergoing treatment can improve their overall quality of life.

These are some examples of how money raised will be spent. We hope you agree that although NHS funding provides fantastic treatment and support for breast cancer patients, there is always more that could be done to help make life more tolerable for all affected. It is our hope to make that a reality for our local community.

Thanks again

Susanne
