Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I'm taking part in the Eton Supersprint Triathlon: 400m swim, 20k bike and 5k run, and I'm hoping you'll sponsor me. 2008 will be third time lucky for me - my third attempt to complete a triathlon in recent years. So far the training is going well - I've taken up extreme sports (dodging bendy buses and cycling 8 miles each way to work on London roads), taken time out from skiing to do laps in the pool in Switzerland (such hardship) and even did my first run last weekend (don't ask. It hurt). It will mean a lot to me personally to complete the race. I'm also taking the opportunity to tell people about the Bromley by Bow Centre (www.bbbc.org.uk) where I work. The Centre is an inspiring, enterprising organisation in east London that works with 2,000 parents, young people and elders each week to help them create a better life for themselves and their families. If I can raise £500, that would pay for an outing for local kids, some of whom may never have been to the West End before, let alone outside London, and £1,000 could pay for 5 mums to be able to access English classes so that they can help their children with their homework. Our work using the arts and learning to help people with conditions like osteoporosis and asthma to improve their health is also pretty special. So please dig deep and help to cheer me on!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Bromley By Bow Centre will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support. ***UPDATE 17/5/08 We did it! In cool and largely dry weather, with a bit of a headwind on the bike, we both got round the course - I finished in 1hr35, Dave in 1hr25. We're both delighted - I was expecting to do something like 2hrs. I was pleased to even overtake a few people on both the bike and the run! It was lovely to have Dave cheering and also find Brenton Hague (a friend and collaborator from Teach First) hollering as I made the swim-bike transition. So I had them plus all the people who've taken the time to wish us luck and support us in the last few weeks keeping me pedalling and jogging along. The Eton course is lovely, and I just about managed to finish before the future leaders of the tory party reclaimed their lake! So thanks everyone, it was great to have your support, and also a big thank you from the team at the Bromley by Bow Centre too!
