Story
Thanks so much for visiting my fundraising page!
On January 31st my mum, Ann Farrell, died in Oakhaven Hospice in Hampshire. Mum had been fighting cancer of the kidney and was given a place in the hospice for the last month of her life. Oakhaven is a wonderful place where she was surrounded by love and very personalised care; ranging from a luxurious room overlooking the beautiful garden, tip top medical attention, prayers, massaging, appetising food and ... so many smiles and laughter. As a family we were also given support and counselling - this made a real difference to our grieving process.
I want to be able to say thank you to the hospice but also help them to continue to offer support in the community they serve. Oakhaven supports 120 patients each week, has an 8 bed in-patient unit, makes 2,500 home visits every year and has 1,200 annual attendances to the day hospice. The hispice will need £2m this year to keep running - only 18% of this is NHS funded.
From the 24 - 29 September 2009 I will be trekking up 3 volcanoes - the challenge starts with Vesuvius in southern Italy and then on to Stromboli - which is a tough trek to the summit and the challenge culminates on Mount Etna in Sicily - one of the most active volcanoes in the world.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Oakhaven Hospice Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please, sponsor me now!
