C2K - Coll to Karonga · 27 November 2016

Mary’s Meals is a global movement that sets up school feeding programmes in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. The charity now feeds more than 2.6 million children every school day and it costs just £19.15/€22.00 to feed a child for a year.

Story

In 2014 a team based mainly on the Isle of Coll in the Hebrides cycled round the Highland coast to raise money for Mary's Meals. This produced two main effects:

  • raised a load of money
  • set up a Mary's Meals kitchen in a school in northern Malawi

30 months later and we need to fundraise again if the kids in Karonga are going to get their school lunches from our kitchen.

Myself, Sophie, Lucy, Georgie and Phoebe are a team of 5, virtually cycling 5555 from Coll to Karonga in 333 days! We are not a particularly fit bunch but we've decided that this is an ideal way to motivate ourselves to put in a bit of exercise everyday, whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause!
