The Eigg to Muck Challenge!
This summer five of us, Jane, Sam, Caroline, Sarah and myself are planning to swim from the Isle of Eigg to the Isle of Muck. It is four miles. We will be wearing wetsuits, and we will have a support boat with us in case we get into difficulty. It is a personal challenge for us. It's a very long swim, and it will be in the open sea, whereas we usually swim in coastal waters. Dave, the skipper of our support boat, is an experienced seaman and knows the local waters very well. He will make sure that we remain safe.
Please sponsor us to attempt this swim, in memory of Matthew Phillips.
In February of this year Matthew lost his battle with brain tumours. He had been ill for four years and had undergone brain surgery many times, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He was brave and outgoing and an inspiration to those around him.
People who met Matthew will never forget him. His mum, Vicki, tells me that each year more children die of brain tumours than of leukaemia, but that leukaemia research is given more than £14 million pounds each year. The yearly budget for brain tumour research is just £750,000. We'd like to help redress this balance both by raising awareness of brain tumours and by helping to raise money to fund research so that other children like Matthew stand a better chance.
