Story
Thanks for dropping in to learn more about my Swim Haiti challenge.
I grew up in St. Andrew in Jamaica, one of Haiti's closest neighbours. Swim Haiti is my response to the January 12th earthquake. I'm determined to do my small bit to support the effort to rebuild the nation.
I've decided to swim 100 miles, the approximate distance from Jamaica (Morant Point) to Haiti (Carcasse) to support Unicef's appeal for the children of Haiti. I'm doing a series of 3-4 mile swims (and a couple all-dayers!) at my local gym throughout March 2010. I'm swimming at least 1 hour a day, six days a week. It's a big mental and physical challenge for me and I will probably be permanently looking like a prune, but I wanted to do something extraordinary for this cause.
I've chosen to support UNICEF, because of the role they play in protecting against child trafficking during desperate and chaotic times, such as the after-math of this earthquake.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. To meet my target, I need to raise £30 for each mile I swim. Please, give what you can!
