On 28 September my daughter Hadley broke her back in a tragic accident at her boarding school in the UK. Very sadly, she is unlikely to walk again. In the blink of an eye everything has changed for her and the Stevenson family. Almost one month into her rehabilitation, however, she is making great progress and is proving an inspiration through her courage and positive attitude.
I am staying with Hadley at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London over the next 3-4 months for her rehab. The hospital is a centre of excellence for spinal cord injuries and we are very fortunate she is there.
Aspire, the sports centre and charity connected to the hospital organises an annual "Channel Swim" where participants swim the 22 mile equivalent of the English Channel in their local pool by Sunday 4th December. That's 1,416 lengths of a 25m pool! The charity provides practical help to people who have been paralysed by spinal cord injuries throughout the UK. We have witnessed at first hand the good work that they do and while I am staying here I want to get involved and help raise some funds for them. I reckon 14 sessions of 100+ laps a go should do it.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
