Story

Craig and I will be climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge on October 24th 2011, please help us support the PKD Charity by sponsoring us.

My mum was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease in 2009 and is currently on dialysis awaiting a kidney transplant. My sister and I have also been diagnosed with the disease; currently our kidneys are fully functional but it is something that will cause us difficulties in the future. It is a hereditary disease and there is no cure or treatment to slow it down. There is research being conducted to find a treatment and hopefully one day it will prove successfull, one drug is currently in human-trial stage in the UK. The PKD charity provides information and support to everyone affected by this disease, and to help fund research into treatments.

ADPKD - AUTOSOMAL DOMINANT POLYCYSTIC KIDNEY DISEASE, the world’s most common inherited life-threatening condition, in which fluid-filled cysts develop in both kidneys. Between 1 in 800 and 1 in 1000 people worldwide suffer from ADPKD. Over half of those affected will have kidney failure by the time they are 60 years old. If someone has ADPKD, there is a 50% likelihood that the disease will pass to each child.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
