BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·

FareShare redistributes good-to-eat, surplus food, which would otherwise go to waste, to 8,000 local charities and community groups across the UK. But our charities are facing unprecedented demand for food. Join our fight against hunger and food waste. Support FareShare today.

Story

I have never known to be a long distance runner but have heard so many good and memorable stories about the Great North Run and therefore have decided to take it on as a challenge for the year of 2009.

Obviously, the run will not be just about myself.

FareShare is a charity that i come to know of through my personal involvement with the Leicestershire and Rutland ProHelp and LeicestershireCares. It is charity that works with the food industry to redistribute quality surplus food to disadvantaged people. Another FareShare's objectives is to minimise fit-for purpose food going to landfill as waste. Through FareShare and its associated network, those who suffer from food poverty are therefore able to have access to affordable nutritious food. This also means that less landfill site will be required and hence contributing towards a greener environment.
