Bethany Sportive - Edinburgh · 7 June 2014

We have been supporting families in Edinburgh with day to day challenges since 2009. Our wish is to see autistic children and their families empowered and included, able to live the lives they want to and access all the day to day experiences that other families take for granted.

Story

Tailor Ed Foundation does a great job of teaching children with autism and their parents to manage their behaviour and help them to improve their everyday skills. My family and I have benefitted from their services, and I would like to return the favour by raising money for them and publicising their work.

Tailor Ed helps children with autism to achieve what they want to in life. There are little things that most kids pick up easily (toilet training, making friends, trying new things, learning new skills) that some autistic kids find really difficult. Tailor Ed has helped my son to write better and communicate better and have more confidence and perseverance in trying new things.

Why such an unusual tandem? My friend Robert bought it because it's such fun to ride. The stoker sits at the front in a recumbent position (and can stop pedalling at any time without affecting the ride). The captain is to the rear in an upright position. This bike stops traffic...

The Bethany Sportive (see http://edinburghsportive.btck.co.uk/) is a cracking 75 mile non-competitive cycle ride through great scenery through Lothian and into the Borders. The ride features amazing views and lots of hills. I'm looking forward to being pedalled up them in seated comfort courtesy of Robert's legs...
