We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

On 26th April 2009, Tom and Robert Nicholls ran in the London Marathon for Cancer Research UK.

The main reason for doing this is to show our love and support for our big sister Katie who was diagnosed with Metastatic Malignant Melenoma (Skin Cancer) in 2008.

If you know either of us, then you know that we are not the most sporty people in the world so this is a big challenge for both of us. As brothers, we are very competitive towards each other and so you may want to take bets on who gets the faster time!

This is a huge challenge but Katie is well worth aching limbs, sore feet and, for the loser the sheer embarrassment of being beaten by his brother! So, please dig deep and give to a fantastic cause, for a fantastic sister.

Thank you.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

08/02/09: We both went to the Marathon Golden Bond training day in London today. Met loads of other runners and some running celebs. It was really inspiring! We've both run 18 miles now and have had some knee trouble but are confident we can get over that finish line on 26th April. We're really delighted and grateful with all the donations so far. Please let your friends know too so we can meet our tough target.

11/03/09: Amazing! We've hit our target already. We're so overwhelmed with the amount of support we've received. Thanks - Hopefully we can go way past this target. With only 45 days to go, we're both enjoying the sunnier weather again. Tom saw some more water-rats and some rather edgy geese on his 6:30am run today along the river. Rob now has an iPod to keep him motivated up until the day.

09/04/09: We have both finished the last long run before race day (20 miles). We would like to say it was a breeze but for both of us the last mile or so was very tough - legs turning to stone! The miles are now in the bank however, and we can start to taper off ready for race day. Our excitement is growing!

For anyone wishing to come down and cheer us on on the day, there is a good interactive map on the London Marathon website: http://www.london-marathon.co.uk/site/?pageID=2&article=168

Keep those donations coming!

26/04/09: We did it! - Rob managed a fantastic 3hrs 58 mins and Tom did 4hrs 36 mins. It was very hot out there and not ideal for running a marathon. The atmosphere was incredible and the support we've received from everyone has been brilliant.
