Thanks for all the messages from those of you concerned for my safety. I have taken the advice of updating this page and letting you know how I am getting along with the training and the reasons why I am doing this.
As most of you know, I ran the 2005 London Marathon for Whizz-Kidz. It was a wonderful experience as those that did it through them (there were 600 of us) knew that we were pushing the boundaries of our physical strength, things we take for granted everyday yet mean so much to those that are disabled.
Whizz-Kidz deal with the mobilisation of disabled kids, providing them with the much needed wheelchairs and specialist equipment that are otherwise unavailable to them. By showing these kids that ordinary people can do extraordinary things (like run marathons and trek Everest), it gives them hope that they too can do extraordinary things. What is to stop them? It was through Whizz-Kidz that I decided to trek Everest as I wanted to take my experiences with them a step further and raise more money (I reached 1800GBP the last time). I need all the support I can get, as do the kids. This is an extreme challenge, one that is quite difficult to prepare for and one that will take a lot of mental discipline. By maintaining the stamina I acquired from running (four one hour runs three times a week at 6 miles each and a three hour run in the weekends at 15-20 miles), I have been able to increase my lung capacity to 90%. This, compounded with regular health checks, trekking in hills and a healthy diet, should enable me to complete the task. You must all realise that this challenege is safety first for all of us involved, this is not the first time Whizz-Kidz have done this and it is done through a professional organisation where we cover 10-15km a day with days in between to aclimatise to the low pressure. We have been provided with a step-by-step guide of health/diet, safety and training. All I need to do now is ask for your support, both financially for the kids as well as mentally for myself. I will need your faith and blessings to complete this. So please reach deep into your hearts and wallets and make a donation, who knows what changes can be made in this world if you do.
