The Challenge:
The objective of the challenge is to cycle the width of England in less than 48 hours for the Bassetlaw Hospice. We will start in Whitehaven and finish in Sunderland covering approximately 140 miles. The route is made up of… Main Roads – Mainly short sections through urban areas – 4%Day One (Thursday 5th November): We will depart from Retford at approx 16:30 and arrive at Whitehaven at 19:30. Check into local B&B. Day Two: Begin Coast 2 Coast challenge. Leave Whitehaven at 8am, cycle to Garrigill/Nenthead (approx 80 miles) Two big climbs – Rest of route flat to undulating. Day Three: Complete remainder of course (approx 60 miles) Four big climbs in the first 18 miles before the route levels out for the last 40 miles. Finish in Sunderland/Newcastle.
