This summer Nick Ellison and Tom Bristow will be attempting the unthinkable in classic British style - driving a London Taxi from Regents Park to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This is somewhere in the region of 10,000 miles, crosses some very hostile terrain and difficult borders, not to mention the Gobi Desert.
Our journey is part of the
Mongolia Rally and we will be travelling in convoy with friends (Charlie Hogg and Matthew Burgum -
Ambulance to Mongolia).
Why do this you may ask? To raise money for Save the Children and the Children's Development Protection Fund, both charities who support children in Mongolia. Any donations through this page will go directly to Save the Children, and our taxi will be auctioned in Mongolia to raise money for the CDPF.
About the Charity
Save the Children
UK began working in Mongolia in 1994. Their programmes expanded rapidly and they quickly became recognised as a key agency for the support and protection of children. They now have operations in aimags right across Mongolia. Current work largely focuses on education and child protection. In 2005, they received an award from Mongolia’s Human Rights Commission and were invited to join a council that consults with parliament on public policy issues.
The main focus of their work is on long-term development, but in 2000 they launched an emergency programme to bring food and other aid to families in crisis during the harsh winter. Maintaining emergency preparedness is now an ongoing part of their work in Mongolia.
The trustees of Go Help first worked with Save the Children Mongolia in 2005 and we are pleased to be able to support their efforts through the Mongolia Charity Rally 2008. You can read full details about the work of Save the Children Mongolia on their website (English and Mongolian) here.
