My story

Thank you for visiting our Justgiving page. We also have a website www.taylansproject.com
Taylan Andrew Rawlinson was our beautiful 7 year old son who was sadly taken away from us on 19th August 2009. He was diagnosed with a rare incurable and inoperable brain tumour located in the brain stem called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, just 10 months before he passed away.
Taylan was a wonderful and very special boy with so much strength, courage and determination. He always made us laugh and looked after his 2 younger brothers protecting them from any harm or danger. We all love him and miss him so much.
Since Taylan's passing, it became apparent to us that we had to do something to help other families and we are now an umbrella group of Brain Tumour Research. Our goal is to raise much needed funds to help find a cure for this devastating illness whilst creating greater national awareness.
Brain tumours are forgotten when it comes to allocating funds for research and the progress is very slow. Just 14% survive beyond five years compared to 50% for all cancers. Brain tumours can affect anyone and are increasingly affecting the younger population and there are very few treatment options and nothing even close to a cure. Research into brain tumours receives less than 1% of the national spend on cancer research in the UK. Yet more children and people under the age of 40 in the UK die of a brain tumour than any other cancer. We learnt this the hard way and the price we had to pay was losing Taylan.
Any donations would be much appreciated and you can also set up your own fundraising page in memory of Taylan through www.justgiving.com/braintr
So far, we have raised over £100,000 for Brain Tumour Research with the help of many incredible fundraisers and supporters. Thank you so much.

In the UK more children and people under 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer and yet it receives less than 1% of national cancer research spending. Our goal is to raise funds to accelerate progress in UK brain tumour research, make a clinical difference and improve patient outcomes.
