Story
Thanks for visiting the TCT West Midlands Fundraising Page. We need your help locally to fund the £1million needed to complete the £2.5million project to support teenagers diagnosed with cancer in the West Midlands.
TCT is developing two new units in theWest Midlands which will treat teenagers and young people from across the region, providing some of the best facilities and options in the country.
These will compliment the current TCT unit at theQueenElizabethHospital inBirmingham which cares for older teenagers and young people up to the age of 24.
A new six bed unit will be built at Birmingham Children's Hospital for teenagers up to the age of 16. We will also be providing recreational and garden facilities at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital for 12-18 year olds diagnosed with bone related cancers.
Currently teenagers in this region are likely to be treated on a children's ward if they are under 16 or an adult ward if they are 17-23. The new Teenage Cancer Trust units will allow teenagers to socialise together in an environment suitable for their needs, with trained staff who understand not only the medical needs but the very different psychological needs of this age group.
