My story

So please dig deep and donate now.

Team Boutwood is off again on the annual bike ride to raise money for the highly endangered black rhino and other related animal conservation projects.

Again I shall be riding with my eleven year old daughter, Olivia, and my nine year old daughter, Imogen. Both girls did really well last year completing the route in a very respectful time.

With your help we hope to raise masses of money for the rhinos so if you can, please give generously and if you can’t please give what ever you can afford. Every little bit helps.

As you know black rhinos are becoming increasingly threatened with only  some 3000 left in the wild.  They are still being persecuted for their horn which is used as fever medicine, aphrodisiacs and dagger handles.  The Aspinall Foundation and Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks are proud to have successfully bred 30 calves since we started our breeding programme and have returned, to protected areas in the wild, five Kent bred black rhinos. /

In 1997 Bwana Kidogo, a male, was returned to South Africa where he has sired many calves.

In 2004  two females, Kivu and Tana were also returned to South Africa and they both have given birth to healthy bull calves.

In June 2007 a five year old pair, Limpopo and Laikipeia were returned to the Serengeti in Tanzania and I am pleased to report that Laikipeia is pregnant and soon to calve.

With the sustainability of our “Back to the wild black rhino programme” proved by these successful births and pregnancies we need your help even more to continue breeding and returning these noble beasts to protected areas in their natural lands.

Please would you be kind enough and sponsor Olivia, Imogen and Robert and let us together help this critically endangered species.

Thank you very much.
