Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia 2010 · 16 May 2010 ·

The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

The Caledonian Etape is an 82 mile Bike Race up and down some steep hills around Pitlochrie in Scotland. We are raising money for Macmillan in memory of our fondly remembered, and still much- missed friend and colleague, Marie Butterworth. We feel sure Marie would be amused at the thought of a bunch of middle aged men struggling up some Scottish hills for 7 hours in her memory!

All of Team Heaton Manor have been affected by cancer in different ways. In recent years we have seen friends, like Marie, die from the disease, some of us have seen close family members fight it, and one of us successfully overcame it. Everyone wants to do something to combat this terrible illness and help bring some comfort to others affected by it.  We are just a trying to play our small part by fundraising amongst friends and colleagues, proudly carrying on the 'Team Heaton Manor' tradition of kindness and selflessness. We hope to raise at least £2000 for Macmillan, which will be a fine tribute to our friends and loved ones who have fought cancer, as well as again illustrating the generosity of our community.
