Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page! When skiing 320 nautical miles to the Magnetic North Pole seems like a good idea, you should probably get your head examined. Instead, Charlie decided to embrace this momentary insanity and entered the Polar Challenge 2010. In addition to this, not only is she still not entirely sure why she didn't just lie down in a darkened room until the madness passed but she is dragging Annelie and James along for the ride. They didn't have the sense to say 'no, go away you mental woman', so they've really only got themselves to blame. They will be testing themselves in one of the most hostile environments on the planet. Not only are there very hungry polar bears out on the ice that would welcome a snack in gortex, but they will be battling temperatures of -50 degrees and each pulling 55kgs of kit on sleds in a race that can take anything between 10 and 20 days to complete. These three will quite simply defy evolution if they get through this alive; Charlie couldn't even ski until a week ago, Annelie has just come back from Australia (which is unlikely to assist in acclimatising to extreme arctic conditions) and James is going to have to do it with two girls. His sanity is the least likely to survive. A developing country with no state benefit system, Mongolia also experiences an average winter temperature of -20 degrees. During these months, the street children go underground, living in the sewers in a battle to stay alive. It is a brutal existence and they frequently turn to alcohol and prostitution. The CNCF works tirelessly to give these children back their childhood, provide them with an education and offer them an opportunity to escape the destitution and desolation of life on the streets. www.cncf.orgSo please, dig deep and donate now. If only to guarantee Team Ic(E)lated's place as lunch for a big hungry bear...
